Why We Include a Mini Door Tune-Up

When glass breaks, it does more than leave an opening; it changes how your door frame holds together.

The door glass helps keep the frame square and maintains the right tension inside the opening (what we call gate compression). Without that balance, the door can sag or twist slightly, which is why doors sometimes won't lock or alarms stop lining up after the glass breaks.

That’s why every same-day door glass replacement includes a mini door tune-up and our Lock-Up Guarantee℠.

We understand the importance of our clients locking up and setting alarms before leaving to go home.

We don’t leave until we know your storefront can lock up securely that night—guaranteed.

We’ve maintained a 100% success rate on our Lock-Up Guarantee℠because your safety, security, and peace of mind are our top priority.

During the tune-up, our technician will:

  • Confirm the door locks up securely before they leave
  • Test alarm sensors and chimes for proper alignment
  • Check and adjust door compression and alignment to keep the door square
  • Identify and discuss any immediate mechanical issues that may need attention

If the door needs additional service, we’ll recommend an optional full door tune-up at a discounted rate while we’re on site.

This brings your door back to full working order and often prevents future repair calls.

If the correct glass size isn’t available, we’ll secure your opening and return quickly—typically within one to two business days—to complete installation.

Step-by-Step: How Same-Day Door Glass Works

1) Call us — we dispatch fast

We'll ask a few targeted questions so we can send the right materials and get you secured quickly.

2) Confirm it's a framed door

Same-day replacement applies to framed commercial door glass (glass captured on all four sides). Herculite/thick frameless doors are always a special order and not available for same-day glass replacement.

3) Tell us the glass color

Is it clear, bronze, or gray? If unsure, we'll ask for photos to confirm the color and clarity. (Green/gray, and dual pane glass are uncommon and will need to be ordered.)

4) Film on the glass?

Let us know if there's window film (tint or anti-graffiti). We can install film, but it is usually next-day. Occasionally, we can coordinate same-day film if time allows—just ask.

5) Mail slot (if any)

Does the door have a mail slot? Keeping the existing slot saves time and cost. If it’s broken or missing, we can replace it (additional hardware charge). Tell us your preferred finish/color if a new slot is needed.

If your mail slot flap has stopped flapping, now would be the time to get a new one. We always have them on our glass vans.

6) Quick photos + simple measurements

  • See below for a picture showing exactly what to measure (the visible opening where the glass sits, width, and height inside the frame).
  • Don't worry about the glass "bite" behind the stops—we account for that. Photos help us verify frame type, color, slot, and hardware details.
  • glass door measurements

7) We typically bring multiple glass options

Based on your photos and measurements, we’ll bring ~3 likely sizes to your site. We’ll select the best fit on arrival. If none fit perfectly, we’ll clean up and remove the glass, then either fetch the correct size immediately or return promptly after cutting/ordering, or secure your opening with a board until the new door glass arrives..

8) Same-day install & mini tune-up

We install the glass and perform the mini door tune-up with Lock-Up Guarantee℠, verifying locks, alarms/chimes, and gate compression/alignment.

9) Optional full tune-up (discounted on-site)

If we spot wear or misalignment beyond the quick tune-up, we’ll offer an optional full tune-up at a discount while we’re there to restore long-term performance.

After-Hours Service Available

Glass often breaks after business hours. That’s why we offer same-day and after-hours emergency service throughout Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside, and San Bernardino Counties.

When you need us, we show up for you—fast, professional, and ready to secure your storefront.

Fast. Safe. Professional.

A broken door glass impacts more than appearance—it affects safety, operations, and your brand image

The Glass Fixer only installs code-compliant safety glass and delivers professional same-day service backed by our Lock-Up Guarantee℠ and our commitment to doing the job right the first time.

Because when we show up, we fix it right—and we stand behind it.

We Only Install Safety Glass in Doors

Every piece of glass we install meets commercial building code safety requirements. We use tempered and laminated safety glass only—never annealed or non-safety glass.

Tempered safety glass is strengthened through a controlled heating and rapid-cooling process that locks tension inside the glass.

This makes it several times stronger than standard glass—but it also means that tempered glass cannot be cut once it’s made.

It must be cut first, then tempered, which typically adds about one business day to production time.

Attempting to cut tempered glass after it’s tempered is extremely dangerous—because the glass is under pressure, it will instantly shatter and send small, fast-moving fragments in every direction.

Laminated safety glass is made from two layers of glass bonded to a clear plastic interlayer. If broken, the interlayer holds the glass together, reducing the risk of injury and keeping your storefront secure.

No shortcuts. No unsafe substitutions. Just the right safety glass, installed correctly, every time.

Dual-Pane Door Glass (Insulated Glass Units)

Dual-pane glass—sometimes called an insulated glass unit (IGU)—must be ordered as a complete, sealed unit from the factory. Because tempered glass can’t be cut after production, every dual-pane glass unit is built to your exact size, with the proper spacing, Low-E coating, and seal integrity.

The typical turnaround for most dual-pane orders is about three business days, depending on the glass color or Low-E coating.

Some clients ask if we can replace just one pane in a dual-pane unit. While it’s technically possible, it’s not practical or recommended. Replacing only one pane is highly labor-intensive, compromises the seal, and results in poor energy efficiency and a much shorter lifespan, so it would cost more and perform worse than a properly factory-sealed unit.

If only one pane is broken, we'll make it safe while you wait for the new unit. Our technician will:

  • Remove any loose or broken glass
  • Apply thick tape around the opening to prevent cuts and cover sharp edges
  • Secure the remaining glass pane so the door looks presentable and functions safely while you wait for installation

This temporary safety seal usually looks far better than a full board-up, but if you prefer, we can board the opening instead until your new glass arrives.

Note: In rare cases where one side of the unit is a decorative or obsolete glass panel that can’t be replaced (like a stained or etched overlay), we’ll refer you to a stained glass overlay specialist who can rebuild or restore the decorative portion.
